Our story
Since its humble beginnings, in the Gwinnett Health Department in Lawrenceville, the GCC has cared for thousands of residents in Gwinnett who would have otherwise gone untreated. More than one-hundred
health care professionals, including nurses, physicians, pharmacists, social workers, lab technicians and
a host of other volunteers have given their time to serve the poor who needed medical care. In addition
to this corps of dedicated volunteers, the Clinic relies on a network of other healthcare providers.
Eastside Medical Center rose to the challenge in the early beginnings when Dr. Lesser organized the
Eastside medical staff and persuaded Eastside Medical Center (then called Gwinnett Community
Hospital and later Humana Hospital Gwinnett), to be an active partner in sharing their resources in
this phenomenal grass roots effort. The Gwinnett Hospital System also participated in providing care
to the Clinic patients in the early years of the Clinic's operations.
Today, the GCC is located in the Heritage Center, off Highway 78, on part of Eastside Medical
Center's dual campus, which donates this space for GCC to operate the clinic. The patients are
seen two nights each week, on the first through the fourth weeks of each month, on Tuesdays
and Thursdays.
